The possibility of carrying out experiments at home and the fact that a
constraint (lockdown) can be transformed into a force are the main
reasons why Madeline Vauthier was awarded the first Pedagogical Innovation Prize of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles.

In mai 2020, it was necessary to modify the teaching of the practical work at the ECPM during the closure of the University due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Madeline Vauthier's main pedagogical objectives were:

  • to have the students work at home so that they have the same notions of experimental manipulations as in the laboratory,
  • to show that it is not always necessary to use expensive equipment to do science.

She therefore proposed a "Physics In Your Kitchen" version of the practical lessons on elastomer and on the study of viscous fluid flow. The students could also adapt the experimental protocol to their conditions and needs.
