Marie-Pierre Krafft

The general commitment of our group is to identify, understand and exploit the dynamic self-assembling and molecular organizing capacities generated by intense hydrophobic interactions, and hence, those induced by highly fluorinated compounds. Therefore, we conceive, synthesize and investigate nanocompartmented molecular assemblies (interfacial films, surface domains, vesicles, fibers, gels, nanoemulsions, microbubbles, spherulites) with the objective of conceiving new therapeutic agents (lung surfactant substitutes, oxygen carriers, multimodal diagnostic agents, drug delivery systems) and the generation and investigation of self-propelled droplets displaying synchronous collective behavior (active soft matter). The faculty for hydrophobic moieties to disorganize certain structured environments is also being explored. Several studies concern environmental remediation. Industrial collaborations concern uses of fluorinated components in lithium ion batteries, liquid ventilation for therapeutic hypothermia, and theranostic delivery systems.

 

Nos travaux actuels visent à identifier, comprendre et mettre en œuvre les capacités d’auto-assemblage dynamiques et d’organisation moléculaires générées par des interactions fortement hydrophobes, en particulier celles produites par des composés fluorés. S’ensuit, la conception, la synthèse et l’étude d’assemblages moléculaires nano-compartimentés (films interfaciaux organisés, domaines de surface, vésicules, fibres, gels, microbulles, sphérulites), avec comme objectifs des agents thérapeutiques (substituts du surfactant pulmonaire, oxygénation tissulaire, diagnostic, délivrance du médicament), et la génération et l’étude de gouttes auto-propulsées à comportement collectif synchrone (matière molle fluorée active). La capacité des chaines hydrophobes de désorganiser certains milieux structurés est également explorée. Plusieurs études récentes concernent la préservation de l’environnement. Des contrats industriels portent sur l’utilisation de dérivés fluorés pour les batteries lithium ion et la ventilation pulmonaire liquide pour l’hypothermie thérapeutique.
