The French Physical Society (SFP) celebrates this year its 150th anniversary and launched in that context a Masterclass in multiple cities in France around open science and scientific publications. In Strasbourg, the Masterclass had a great success with around 60 PhD students from Alsace in the Cronenbourg Campus on June 19th and 20th, 2023. Co-organised by the French Physical Society, Strasbourg University, Ecole Doctorale PCP (ED 182), URFIST, EDP Sciences, IPHC (Institut Pluridisciplinaire Hubert Curien) and ICS (Institut Charles Sadron), the Masterclass offered an overview of the landscape of scientific publishing, helping students to have critical mind, to acquire skills and get to know services that can help them in terms of open science. The training was prepared to have multiple points of views with speakers from different backgrounds. PhD students discovered key questions around open data and scientific publications, including economical models associated to those. They met with professionals that they can contact during their PhD (especially at the URFIST Strasbourg and the Library Services and DNUM at the Unistra). Several practical sessions around the process of publication writing have been proposed with the support of EDP Sciences. The PhD students also attended to talks by renowned physicists and physical chemists, with various responsibilities, including Thomas Ebbesen, who was awarded the CNRS gold Medal and Kavli Prize.
