Arrived in January 2024 at the ICS, Daniel Grande is the new deputy director of the laboratory. As a polymer chemist, his work focuses on the development of functionalized porous polymeric materials for various applications in the fields of sustainable development or healthcare. After a PhD defended in 1998 in co-supervision between the University of Bordeaux and that of Coahuila in Mexico, and a postdoctoral stay at the University of Emory in the USA, he was recruited as CNRS researcher in Thiais in 2001. He has been CNRS Research Director since 2014, and from 2020 to 2023, he directed the East-Paris Institute of Chemistry and Materials Science (ICMPE), a laboratory located on the CNRS campus in Thiais. He has been the chair of section 11 (on soft matter) of the National Committee since 2021. From 01/07/2024, he will be the new director of the ICS for the period 2024-2028. Daniel enjoys exchanging and working with people from different fields and cultures. Therefore, he is always open to a coffee chat. Outside the laboratory, he appreciates hiking, tennis, and discovering new sites.
